The Prodigal Son's Valentine

Written By David E. Young , 2010
Not all sons have a mom
Who’s patient like you are;
Who puts up with a son
Who pushes her so far.

I know I’ve not always
Been the model boy.
But despite all I’ve done,
I want you to have joy.

You’re always there for me
When I need a scold or hug.
Now I’ll be there for you;
Undo the holes I’ve dug.

I’ll make you of ho proud
That you’ll forget all heartache!
I want to hear you laugh
With mirth as sweet as cake.

I can’t express just how
Much I really feel
Except to say, “I love you,”
With every bit of zeal.

On this day of love,
Know that you are loved
No matter what may come
On Earth or up above.

You’re in my mind today,
And in my very heart.
You’re in every thought
While we are apart.

When you get me back,
You’ll have a better man
Than the one you knew;
The one who turned and ran.

So happy Valentine’s Day!
Things will all get better!
I appreciate you
And hope you like this letter.
